Town of 13,000 gets a Bundesliga team: Elversberg debut at home to Leverkusen

SV Elversberg, from Spiesen-Elversberg (population 13,000), become the smallest town ever represented in the Bundesliga when the 2026/27 season opens on 28 August. Their debut fixture: home to Bayer Leverkusen at the Ursapharm-Arena. Five years ago Elversberg were in the fourth tier; three promotions later, no wealthy owner, they are in Germany's top flight.
