
More than 500 AFL players lose brain-injury insurance cover as Zurich pulls out
Over 500 AFL players lost brain-injury insurance cover on May 1, 2026, when Zurich applied concussion and head-trauma exclusions to total and permanent disability cover in their superannuation fund. Benefits previously worth up to $1.1 million per claim are gone. The AFLPA has written to other insurers seeking replacement cover. No deal has been announced.
