Zoologist and surrealist painter Desmond Morris left a final book on animals in surrealist art, due September 2026 from Thames & Hudson
Desmond Morris (1928–2026), who died in April at 98, held parallel careers as a zoologist — his 1967 bestseller "The Naked Ape" examined human behaviour through animal biology — and as a practising surrealist painter. His final book, "The Surrealist Menagerie," published by Thames & Hudson, is scheduled for September 2026. Artnews reviewed it on 28 August 2026.
