Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 22, becomes heir to the Norwegian throne

King Harald V died at Oslo University Hospital on 28 August 2026, aged 89. His son succeeded immediately as King Haakon VIII under Norway's constitutional rule that the throne is never vacant. Haakon's 22-year-old daughter, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, is now heir — the line of succession passing automatically, as it did for her father.
