
Princess Ingrid Alexandra becomes Norway's first female heir in 600 years after King Harald V's death
King Harald V died at Rikshospitalet on 28 August 2026 at 06:35, the Norwegian Royal Court announced. His son Crown Prince Haakon becomes king, elevating Haakon's daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 22, to heir. She is the first woman in that position since Queen Margaret, who died in 1412. Ingrid Alexandra is studying social sciences at the University of Sydney.
