Ireland submits Irish-language heist thriller 'Aontas' for 2027 Oscar

The Irish Film & TV Academy selected 'Aontas,' a reverse-chronology heist thriller directed by Damian McCann and performed entirely in Irish, as Ireland's submission for best international feature film at the 99th Academy Awards. Variety reported the announcement on 28 August 2026. Funded by TG4, BBC Gaeilge and Northern Ireland Screen, the film was shot in 18 days in the Glens of Antrim.
