AFL strips Nicky Winmar from Hall of Fame, removes Perth Stadium statue after assault conviction

Former AFL star Nicky Winmar, 60, has been removed from the Australian Football Hall of Fame after being sentenced to six months' jail plus a 12-month community corrections order for assaulting a woman in Cohuna, Victoria. The bronze statue of his 1993 anti-racism stand outside Perth Stadium has also been taken down. Winmar is appealing both conviction and sentence.
