No regent appointed as King Harald V's condition described as "svært alvorlig"
The Royal Court in Oslo describes King Harald V's health as "svært alvorlig" — extremely serious — on 27 August 2026, ten days into his hospitalisation at Rikshospitalet. Norway's constitution provides for a regent when the monarch cannot discharge his duties, and Crown Prince Haakon has previously served as regent during his father's hospitalisations. No such appointment has been announced.
