Norwegian Palace says King Harald V's condition is "extremely serious"
The Norwegian Royal Court stated on 27 August 2026: "His Majesty the King's health condition is extremely serious." King Harald V, 89, was admitted to Oslo University Hospital on 17 August with haemolytic anaemia — red blood cells destroyed faster than the body replaces them — and a bacterial blood infection. Crown Prince Haakon is acting regent. All royal engagements are cancelled.
