Crown Prince Haakon serves as Regent as Palace says King Harald's condition is "very serious"

Crown Prince Haakon is acting as Regent, carrying out King Harald's constitutional duties, after the Norwegian Palace stated: "His Majesty the King's state of health is very serious." Harald, 89, has been at Oslo's National Hospital since 17 August with a blood infection and fluid retention following cortisone treatment for haemolytic anaemia. The Royal Court said his health deteriorated over the weekend.
