Norwegian Royal Court says King Harald's health is now 'very serious'

The Norwegian Royal Court said on 27 August 2026 that "His Majesty the King's state of health is very serious." The Palace had reported King Harald stable as recently as 24 August. The 89-year-old, Europe's oldest serving head of state, has been at Rikshospitalet, Oslo, since 17 August with complications from haemolytic anaemia treatment, including a bacterial blood infection. Crown Prince Haakon is serving as Regent.
