Ken Oliver, former Guardian racing editor, dies aged 86

Ken Oliver, who started as a teaboy on the London Evening News and rose to racing editor of the Guardian, has died aged 86. Across more than 50 years he worked for the Sporting Life, the Sun and the Sunday People — tipping under the name Larry Lynx — and edited Ruff's Guide to the Turf, racing's equivalent of Wisden. He retired in 2004, succeeded by Tony Paley. The Guardian reported his death.
