Te Pāti Māori floats 5% stamp duty on property sales

Te Pāti Māori wants a 5 percent stamp duty — a tax buyers pay when purchasing property — on residential sales. First home buyers under $1 million would be exempt. The UK and Australia already use stamp duty, but New Zealand never has. It is the only entirely new policy in the party's nine-point tax package.
