Photographer sues Elizabeth Peyton, Sotheby's and David Zwirner over US$1.92 million Oasis painting

Photographer Justin Thomas filed a copyright suit on August 20, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging Peyton's 1996 painting "Earl's Court (Liam + Noel)" is a "slavish copy" of his 1995 photograph of the Gallagher brothers. The painting sold for US$1.92 million, including fees, at Sotheby's in New York in May 2026.
