US Open denies Wawrinka a wildcard farewell — the only Grand Slam to do so

Stan Wawrinka, 41, will retire at season's end but will not say goodbye at Flushing Meadows. The US Open declined the 2016 champion a wildcard — the discretionary main-draw invitation — while the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon all granted him one in 2026. Wawrinka posted a farewell message to the tournament on social media.
