Sir Billy Boston, rugby league's first knight, dies aged 92

Sir Billy Boston, the first rugby league player to receive a knighthood, has died aged 92 in hospital in Wigan, his home for 74 years. He passed away four days after the funeral of Lady Joan, his wife of 70 years. Boston scored 571 career tries — the most by any British player — and was knighted in summer 2025.
