Azerbaijan tests novel legal theory in CNN defamation suit: foreign governments deserve weaker First Amendment shield

Azerbaijan's defamation suit against CNN, filed in Delaware federal court over a June 2026 report on Israeli operations from Azerbaijani territory, argues foreign governments are "not accountable to the American electorate" and so deserve less First Amendment protection than US government reporting.
