Balding closes to within £700,000 of O'Brien after York double

Andrew Balding's 2026 Flat season prize-money passed £7m after Unexpected Item won the Juddmonte International at 10-1 and Kalpana took the Yorkshire Oaks at York's Ebor festival. The Kingsclere trainer trails Aidan O'Brien (£7.77m) by under £700,000 with four domestic Group One wins since 10 July. Balding has finished second twice before.
