Maradona 'Hand of God' ball sells for US$3.35 million — far below the shirt from the same match

Heritage Auctions sold Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' ball for US$3.35 million on 23 August 2026 — well short of its roughly US$10 million estimate. Sotheby's sold the shirt Maradona wore in the same 1986 World Cup quarter-final for US$9.3 million. The ball was kept by referee Ali Bin Nasser for nearly 40 years.
