National's social media age ban bill enters Parliament without coalition backing

National introduced its Online Safety Bill, banning under-16s from social media and threatening platforms with fines of up to 10% of global revenue. Coalition partners New Zealand First and ACT used the agree-to-disagree provision, meaning no joint government endorsement. Winston Peters called it "a National bill, not a government bill." With 11 sitting days left, it cannot reach first reading before the election.
