Mark Phillips Admits His First Reaction to Daughter Zara Tindall's British Open Title Was 'Less Than Generous'

Mark Phillips, Princess Anne's ex-husband and 1972 Olympic eventing gold medalist, wrote in Horse & Hound that his first reaction to daughter Zara Tindall winning the British Open Eventing Championship was "less than generous." The coach in him counted attrition — 14 eliminations, eight retirements, 10 withdrawals. The dad in him was proud. Tindall, 45, claimed her first national title at Hartpury aboard a 17-year-old Irish gelding, Class Affair.
