
René Malo, Producer of Oscar-Nominated 'The Decline of the American Empire,' Dies at 84
Quebec producer René Malo died at 84 at Montreal's CHUM after a short hospitalisation, his representative confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. Malo produced Denys Arcand's "The Decline of the American Empire" (1986), the first Canadian film nominated for the Academy Award for best foreign language film. His credits also include Lanctôt's Venice prize-winning "Sonatine" (1984). He had Parkinson's disease in recent years.
