
China Launches Nationwide Probe After Formaldehyde-Tainted Cabbages Found
China ordered nationwide market inspections after officials verified footage of Hebei wholesalers dipping cabbages in formaldehyde — a cancer-causing chemical — to extend shelf life during transport. Police have charged those involved. China produces over 30 million tons of cabbage yearly, nearly half the world's total, exporting to Vietnam, South Korea, and Russia.
