King Harald V's health deteriorates; Crown Prince Haakon serving as regent
The Norwegian Royal Court announced on 23 August that King Harald V's condition deteriorated over the weekend. The 89-year-old is receiving antibiotics for a bacterial blood infection that developed after cortisone treatment for anaemia caused fluid retention. His medical team says his condition is stable. Crown Prince Haakon, first in line, is serving as regent. Doctors say the King will miss public engagements for some time.
