Newly promoted Hull City beat Manchester United 2-0 to open the 2026-27 Premier League season on 22 August. Both goals came from set pieces before half-time — Semi Ajayi from a rebound, then Mendy heading in Regan Slater's free-kick. Hull kept a clean sheet throughout. Alan Shearer called Hull "miles the better team."
