Alcaraz returns to defend US Open title as Sinner withdraws injured

Carlos Alcaraz announced on 20 August 2026 that he will defend his US Open men's singles title, ending a four-month layoff with a right wrist injury. World number one Jannik Sinner withdrew the following day, citing a right knee injury. Alcaraz, ranked three, last played at the Miami Open in March.
