Clean Vehicle Standard kept, but penalty cut well below Australia's

Transport Minister Chris Bishop says the Clean Vehicle Standard will stay, after penalties were cut nearly 80 percent last November. Importers said they could not source enough low-emissions vehicles to avoid charges. The penalty is now about $15 per gram of CO₂ over the limit, versus $50–$100 in Australia. New targets are due from 1 January 2028.
