Painting newly attributed to Bernini found in Vienna museum storeroom

A painting newly attributed to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the 17th-century sculptor of St Peter's Basilica, was found in the storeroom of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. "Portrait of an Old Man" will anchor the exhibition "Bernini: Painter and Sculptor" at Palais Lobkowitz, 2 December 2026 to 4 April 2027. The museum has not disclosed how the attribution was made.
