Director Omits 'Gaza' From Title, Fearing the Word Would Keep Audiences Away

Poh Si Teng named her Gaza documentary "American Doctor" with no mention of Palestine or Gaza in the title, believing either word would turn people away before they watched, she told Variety (21 August 2026). The film, a U.S.–Palestine–Malaysia–Qatar co-production, premiered at Sundance and earned a Special Mention at CPH:DOX. Watermelon Pictures boarded U.S. distribution in April.
