Fleming was phoning Root daily during England's first Test against Pakistan — before officially starting as head coach

England beat Pakistan by an innings and 103 runs at Headingley, and incoming head coach Stephen Fleming was already involved. Appointed on July 30 but not starting until after this series, Fleming spoke with captain Joe Root daily throughout the match. Root said it was "great to have him on the phone" and that Fleming "is already invested in what we're trying to achieve."
