Showalter to Direct New 'Serendipity' as a 'Rebuttal' of the 2001 Film for Amazon MGM and Miramax

Michael Showalter will direct a new "Serendipity" for Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax, Deadline reports. Showalter calls it "more of a rebuttal" — same title, new characters and story. Original screenwriter Marc Klein returns. Semi-Formal Productions produces under its first-look deal with Amazon MGM. The 2001 Miramax release grossed over $77 million worldwide. Casting is underway; no release date set.
