Xbox cuts 3,200 roles as component shortage drives console price hikes

Microsoft's Xbox division has cut roughly 1,600 jobs, with a further 1,600 expected by summer 2027, per the company's restructuring statement. The cuts coincide with substantial console price rises — the Series S rose from £300 to £430, the disc-drive Series X from £500 to £670 — driven by a memory and storage shortage intensified by AI data-centre demand. Xbox boss Asha Sharma warns another component-price doubling is expected by autumn 2027.
