
Kate Winslet got the 'Titanic' call while filming Ophelia's mad scenes on Branagh's 'Hamlet' set
Kenneth Branagh told the Edinburgh International Film Festival that Kate Winslet received James Cameron's offer to star in 'Titanic' on a day she was shooting one of Ophelia's mad scenes for his 1996 'Hamlet'. Winslet was 20, cast by Branagh after being deemed too young at 17 for his 1994 'Mary Shelley's Frankenstein'. (Variety, 21 August 2026)
