ZHA's Baku Expo City masterplan keeps 80% of existing pine forest

Zaha Hadid Architects has been selected to design the Baku Expo City masterplan in Azerbaijan. The residential and civic district will preserve roughly 80 per cent of an existing pine forest — about 14,400 of 18,000 trees — by nesting homes among standing pines rather than clearing the site. A forestry management and replanting programme is included. No budget or timeline has been disclosed.
