McIlroy opens BMW Championship with 64, shares lead after 66th-place finish the week before

Rory McIlroy shot a six-under-par 64 at Bellerive Country Club to share the first-round clubhouse lead at the BMW Championship, a FedEx Cup playoff event with a $20 million purse. The world number two finished 66th at the St Jude Championship the week before, then worked with swing coach Michael Bannon and caddie Harry Diamond to restore his form. McIlroy birdied three of his last four holes to join Gary Woodland, Wyndham Clark, JJ Spaun and Chris Gotterup on six under. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler bogeyed four of his opening seven.
