Lionsgate Spent $10 Million Removing Abuse Allegations from Michael Biopic — Sequel Plans to Put Them Back

Lionsgate spent at least $10 million on reshoots to cut child abuse allegations from Antoine Fuqua's Michael biopic, which ends in 1987 (Variety, 7 April 2026). A sequel now in development at Lionsgate and the Jackson estate will address those allegations — from Michael Jackson's perspective, says Jaafar Jackson, who calls them "driven by an agenda" (Deadline, 20 August 2026). Production is targeted for late 2026 or early 2027.
