Compulsion Games completes management buyout from Microsoft, returns to independence

Compulsion Games completed its management buyout from Microsoft, CEO Guillaume Provost confirmed to GamesBeat. The deal closed on 11 August 2025. Microsoft acquired the Montreal studio in 2018 and later planned to shut it down, per Kotaku. Rather than disband, the team stayed together and regained ownership of Contrast, We Happy Few and South of Midnight.
