Colossal Biosciences Claims Red Wolf De-Extinction, Citing Dire Wolf Technology

Colossal Biosciences says it has "de-extincted" the red wolf — the most endangered wolf species, with only 14 left in the wild — using the same technology it deployed to bring back the dire wolf, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 20 August 2026. The claims have not been independently verified by outside peer review. Colossal also says it used AI-enabled bioacoustic sensors to decode the wolves' howls.
