Watermelon Pictures Acquires North American Rights to Diego Luna's 'Ashes' Ahead of TIFF

Watermelon Pictures has acquired North American theatrical rights to Diego Luna's migration drama "Ashes," Variety reported on 2026-08-20. The film, Luna's second as director, adapts Brenda Navarro's novel "Ceniza en la boca" and premiered at Cannes in May 2026. It screens next at Toronto in September. Netflix holds streaming rights for Latin America, Spain and Portugal. No US-Canada release date is set.
