Scorsese joins Schrader's 'The Basics of Philosophy' as executive producer ahead of Venice premiere

Martin Scorsese has boarded Paul Schrader's drama "The Basics of Philosophy" as executive producer, Deadline reported on 2026-08-20. It is their second such pairing after 2021's Venice entry "The Card Counter." The film, starring Jack Huston as a guilt-ridden philosophy professor, premieres out of competition at the 2026 Venice Film Festival. Noora Films handles international sales; CAA Media Finance represents U.S. rights.
