Charter closes $34.5bn Cox acquisition, creating 37-million-customer cable operator

Charter Communications closed its $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox Communications on 20 August 2026, per Variety. The combined company serves roughly 37 million customers across 45 states and will operate under the Spectrum brand. The deal, announced in May 2025, received final approval from the California Public Utilities Commission. Charter expects $500 million in cost savings within three years, Reuters reported.
