Storeroom painting in Vienna attributed to Bernini to be unveiled in December

A painting sent to the Kunsthistorisches Museum storeroom in 1989, previously attributed to at least six artists, has been newly attributed to Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Curator Gudrun Swoboda cites anatomical parallels with Bernini's sculpture and two-hand execution. Fewer than 20 Bernini paintings are accepted as authentic. The portrait, dated circa 1670, will be unveiled in December.
