Georgian cinema boycott of state funder enters third year as Urushadze premieres at Sarajevo
Georgian directors, producers, writers and performers have boycotted the Georgian National Film Centre — the state body funding domestic production — since August 2023, citing government censorship, intimidation and content sanitisation, per Screen Daily and RFE/RL. Director Ana Urushadze told The Hollywood Reporter on 19 August 2026 that Georgian cinema is "in a dead-end situation." The campaign, "Georgian cinema is in danger," began 21 August 2023.
