Gambling ad reforms pass Senate, but VIP inducement loophole remains

The Senate passed betting-ad reforms but left VIP managers free to offer inducements — bonuses used to keep problem gamblers hooked. A 2023 bipartisan inquiry wanted inducements banned outright. Instead, the government left the definition of 'high risk' to industry consultation. Former addict Jesse Murphy got $43,700 in bonus bets and wagered nearly $1 million across 15,000 bets. He says the new laws wouldn't have stopped him.
