SoundExchange gives MC Lyte its Music Fairness Award for pushing terrestrial radio royalties bill

SoundExchange announced on 19 August 2026 that it has awarded rapper MC Lyte its Music Fairness Award for her advocacy behind the American Music Fairness Act. The bill, reintroduced in Congress in February 2025, would require US AM and FM radio stations to pay performance royalties to recording artists for the first time in commercial radio's roughly 100-year history.
