Scary Movie 6 breaks nine-year R-rated comedy drought at the box office

Scary Movie 6 is the first pure R-rated comedy to cross $100 million at the box office since Girls Trip in 2017, per Deadline — a nine-year gap in a category studios had largely abandoned theatrically. The Paramount/Miramax film grossed over $230 million worldwide against a $30 million production budget. It streams on Paramount+ from 3 September.
