Los Tekis Bassist 'Pucho' Ponce Dies at 68

José Luis 'Pucho' Ponce, bassist of Argentine folk group Los Tekis, died on 19 August 2026 at age 68. Los Tekis confirmed the death on social media. Argentine outlet La Gaceta reported he had been diagnosed with a complicated illness roughly two months earlier. Ponce joined the Jujuy-based group in 1995 and played on all 15 of their studio albums, including the 2011 Gardel Award-winning 'Carnaval, Pasión del Norte.' Argentina's National Institute of Music issued a statement lamenting his death.
