New netball Sirens filed trademark before telling ice hockey Sirens

SEG filed a "Sydney Sirens" trademark with IP Australia about two weeks before rebranding its Super Netball club on 19 August 2026. The company first contacted Dawn Watt, president of the 20-year-old Sydney Sirens ice hockey team, on the evening of 18 August — the night before the public announcement. A naming dispute is now brewing.
