Animal Collective's Geologist announces album made from starlight, out 16 October

Animal Collective's Geologist (Brian Weitz) will release 'The Sirens' on 16 October on the Outside Time label. The single composition was recorded at Kyle Simon's Farrington Observatory in Joshua Tree, where a telescope fitted with photodiodes collects light from celestial bodies, converts it to electrical signals and sends it to a modular synthesizer as control voltage modulating pitch, filter and rhythm. A preview track, 'The Opening,' is available now. (Pitchfork)
