Root resumes England Test captaincy after four years, leads side against Pakistan at Headingley
Joe Root, 35, captained England in a Test for the first time since 2022 as Pakistan visited Headingley on 19 August. Root, who said he was "really excited", urged his players to be "really good role models and human beings" and to build on Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum's legacy. Stephen Fleming replaced McCullum as head coach on 30 July.
